Kata-seoi
(shoulder throw from one side
also known in Japan as ippon-seoi-nage, kata-seoi is used in kata
where as ippon-seoi-nage has variations)
"Tori enters as in Uki-goshi, his left foot on the toes
of which he pivots towards the left, between and slightly to the
front of Uke's feet, his right foot against Uke's right foot on
the inside and pointing in the same direction. This manner of
entry is fundimental. However, some judoka prefer to dash their
right foot direct against Uke's right foot on the inside and in
the same direction, and afterwards place their left foot as described
above. At the same time Tori clearly flexes his legs, knees separated,
but his body remaining upright, and his left arm lifts Uke's right
arm and pulls strongly forward and a little to the right. This
movement permits Tori to put his back as far as his loins in contact
with Uke's chest and stomach ands particularly his right shoulder
blade and shoulder against Uke's right pectoral and armpit, because
Tori's right bent arm is placed, biceps strongly contracted, under
Uke's right armpit and blocks Uke's arm in the fold of his elbow
between his forearm on the outside, his right hand resting on
Uke's deltoid and his own deltoid on the inside. Once these contacts
are established it remains only for Tori to bend forward."
