Judo is an Olympic sport not a ' martial art ' . British Judo is governed by a national governing body, The British Judo Association (BJA). Greenbank Judo Club is a BJA club.

We continue to welcome visitors and new members from other associations.
Licence transfers can be carried out on request while retaining present grades.
Members from other associations are required to provide their licence numbers for Greenbank Judo Club's insurance policy records.

Greenbank Judo Club was founded in 1999. Since then we have relocated with the help of Sefton Sports Council to The United Reformed Church Grosvenor Road Birkdale Southport PR8 2ET

In 2001 Greenbank Judo Club were awarded a sports development grant by the Awards For All Commission enabling us to structure our club.



In 2004 Greenbank Judo Club achieved Clubmark status with
Sport England and
The British Judo Association.


In 2005 Sefton Sports Council granted us an Active Club Award.
Greenbank Judo club is proud to be among the first three sports clubs in Sefton to be granted this award.

To gain this award we were asessed on five broad areas:

"Duty of care
Playing and coaching
Volunteer management
Sports equity and ethics
Club management"

 


  Left Jigoro Kano at age 13 phot taken in 1873 Jigoro Kano founded Kodokan judo as an educational institution, free from financial interests, with the object of facilitating the study and practice of judo as a means of physical, mental, ethical training elavating judo as a scientific and ever progressive subject on the principle of maximum efficiency and minimum effort.
....... We teach Kodokan judo to students of all ages in one and a half hour classes on Wednesdays & Fridays at The United Reformed Church Grosvernor Road Birkdale Southport. Judo develops team work, self confidence and self defence in a safe and controlled environment.We play games and learn basic and competition judo techniques.
The kids gain in confidence and have a wonderful time in a safe controlled environment. So if you fancy an hour and a halfs worth of judo fun and games pop down and have a go.

All students are given a welcome pack when they join the club, this includes a BJA licence application form a Greenbank Judo Club registration form and a welcome letter from the club.

 

All coaches have attended an appointed persons first aid course, which is revalidated every three years

of the club's safety practices.

 

 

 

Parents and friends are welcome to stay and watch the class.
Free tea and coffee available.

Juice is provided free for the students.
